Made from solid pine wood, it features a scalloped, arched top and slatted detailing for a romantic yet rustic look. Apply a coat of the polycrylic to seal the stain lightly sand after the first coat and apply a second coat. But also, since true shiplap boards are about 3/4″ deep, it means that you have to remove all of your molding (baseboards, crown molding, door trim) to install “real” shiplap and then reinstall the molding back on top of it.

Added a trim element to the arch; This headboard will go with a whole range of paint colors, so you don’t have to worry too much about it blending in with the rest of the room. This really allows for access to the nails for easier board removal if ever it’s rotting or damaged in an outside application.

Add the sides of the headboard so the long side butts against the wall and the short side with the lip covers the edge of the cut shiplap planks. Here’s a video showing how easy it is to spray paint a shiplap headboard: If you want to make your own diy shiplap headboard or shiplap accent wall, i’ve got our materials list and directions below.

This wall is such a fun addition to our very boring house! The entire project cost around $140 to make this king size shiplap headboard. The shiplap and the monochromatic color scheme help make the room look inviting and fresh.

You want the bottom of the headboard to rest and few inches below the top of your mattress. Next, cut one to fit the rest of the wall, which for our wall was right at 5 and 1/3 feet. Use liquid nails first and attach with the brad nailer.

Then screw the 6 foot 1×4″ board on top of the frame. Available in all standard bed sizes. Once these were all cut, we started at one end and attached them to one another and a center post (1 of the 1″x2″ boards).

Continue this until all pieces of shiplap are in place. It should be started by lining the ends with a vertical board. The first was attached by several screws.

I trimmed out the front with 1 by 6' pine; These wooden panels are easy to install, create an effective seal, and are an increasingly popular style choice for the inside of homes—from modern to rustic. Boom, this is the headboard for you.

Each one is individually crafted and can be customized in height, or color. Making your own modern shiplap wall is super easy and affordable. Starting at the baseboard, we placed one full 8′ board at the edge of the wall and nailed it in place use nail gug.

The trick for installing shiplap is to nail through the bottom part of the board, but not through the lower rabbet. I used the preprimed shiplap and 1x material from the big box store so it was a little more expensive but still very reasonable. Then i made side tables.

Once the stain and clearcoat are dry use liquid nail on the back of each piece and and lay it down in the desired spot on the plywood base. We left about an extra inch on each side to be cut down perfectly later. These headboards are custom made to order.

First we started by measuring the shiplap boards to be the same size; Thanks for stopping by the cottage today! There’s definitely a significant cost savings to creating the look of shiplap with plywood strips instead of using true shiplap boards so that’s one reason that faux is the way to go.

I built a queen size headboard, so i needed 2 boxes of wall boards, a piece of plywood cut to size (i made this headboard 68″w x 36″h), one piece of 1×3 pine for the cap, nail gun, and wood glue. *the directions for this headboard are for a king bed, so if you have something smaller, you will just need to adjust the measurements to fit* ok first off, here is what you need: I have done this process twice and thought i would give a couple of suggestions:
