You drill out the 1/2 x 3/4 x 1/2 t's to allow the 1/2 tube to pass through the t and the 3/4 go between the t's. Recirculate ice water through the cfc as part of the chilling cycle. Once the boil has been completed, i lift the kettle into the position previously held by the mash tun (on the middle tier) and from there i use the high temperature hoses to carry the wort down to the pump and then up to the chiller. This means that as the hot fluid enters from the right, it cools against the already warmed up cold fluid from the left. When plate and counterflow chillers are used without recirculating (the normal way), the cold break forms in the chiller, and has nowhere to go but end up in the fermentor. I recirculate the wort back into the kettle, chilling the entire batch down.

I'd have to bring the wort down to like 90 degrees in the kettle with. One advantage to this design is the 1/2 diameter of the tubing. The water is a little more involved.

A counterflow heat exchanger will require less heat exchange surface area than a parallel flow heat exchanger for the same heat transfer rate and the same inlet and outlet temperatures for the fluids. My tap water is too hot to run the wort directly into the kettle, and it would require entirely too much ice.
